3 Markets in the Algarve you shouldn't miss

The Algarve is known for its sunny beaches, picturesque villages and lively markets. Whether you're looking for local delicacies, handmade souvenirs or just want to soak up the atmosphere, these three markets are definitely worth a visit.

  1. Loulé Market – authentic and bustling
In the heart of the town of Loulé, you will find one of the most famous markets in the Algarve. The covered market hall in Moorish style is open daily, but on Saturdays the city really comes to life. Local farmers sell their fresh vegetables, fruit and herbs, while artisans display their handicrafts. Perfect for tasting Portuguese delicacies and mingling with the locals.
  2. Olhão Fish and Farmers' Market – fresh from the sea
Olhão is located directly on the coast and is known for its fishing culture. Every Saturday, the boulevard is filled with market stalls selling fresh fish, shellfish and crustaceans, as well as regional products such as olives, honey and bread. The market hall itself, overlooking the Ria Formosa, is an architectural gem and a paradise for foodies.
  3. Gypsy market in Quarteira – colourful and lively
Every Wednesday, Quarteira is transformed into a colourful collection of fabrics, clothing, bags, shoes and more. This is a real “gypsy market”, where haggling is the norm. The atmosphere is relaxed, the prices are low and you can often find surprising bargains here. Please note: it can be busy, so be sure to arrive early!

Tip:
Bring cash and a large bag for your purchases. And don't forget: markets in the Algarve are not just for shopping, but above all for experiencing.

Have fun!
